The due date is the transfer date plus 263 days. That is 266 days from conception, minus three days for the age the embryo had already reached in the lab.

Nothing about your cycle length or last period is used. The embryo's age at transfer is a known quantity, which is what makes IVF dating more precise than dating a spontaneous conception.

What a day-3 embryo is

Three days after fertilisation an embryo is at the cleavage stage, typically six to eight cells, and has not yet formed a blastocyst cavity. It is still travelling down the fallopian tube at this point in a natural conception.

Transferring at day 3 puts the embryo in the uterus earlier than it would arrive naturally. It implants a little later as a result, which is why every downstream date — testing, beta, scan — shifts two days compared with a day-5 transfer.

Counting the two-week wait in DP3DT

Days after a day-3 transfer are written as dp3dt. Because the embryo needs roughly two more days to reach blastocyst stage and hatch, implantation usually completes between 3dp3dt and 6dp3dt.

hCG starts appearing in blood around 7-9dp3dt and on a home test around 10-12dp3dt. A negative before that tells you very little.

If you also have day-5 embryos frozen

Every transfer is dated from its own embryo's age, so a later frozen day-5 cycle would use the day-5 calculation rather than this one. Nothing carries over from a previous cycle.

Where a clinic date and a calculator date differ by a day or two, follow the clinic — some clinics date from egg retrieval rather than transfer, which shifts things very slightly.
